    History of Samovar:
Samovar is Russian for “self boiler”.  The original Samovar was a two vessel metal, used to heat water and make a tea concentrate. Some believe the Samovar was introduced to the Russian people by Genghis Khan's Golden Hoard traders who traveled the famed ancient Silk Road in the 1100-1200's.  The first documented Russian Samovar is dated in the 1700's and is believed to come from Tula, Russia.  The Samovar also appeared in Persia in the 1700's but also bore the name “Samovar” leading many to believe the place of origin was Russia and was exported to Persia.
The original Samovar had a central funnel in the larger bottom water urn. The funnel would be filled with coal, wood, or pine cones, lit, and allowed to burn either slowly or fast. A specially designed set of bellows could be pumped to aerate the flames and speed burning, thus bring the water to a boil more quickly in the bottom urn. The top urn was smaller and would be filled with tea leaves and water.  As the water in the bottom urn boiled, steam arose from the top and heated the top urn or teapot, slowly allowing the tea leaves to open fully and infuse the water making a tea concentrate. Hot water was then always available for other beverages, purposes and uses.
The Samovar was very important to the Russian household in the 1700's. People would gather together in communal fashion, enjoy a cup tea, share news....,fellowship. The Russian Samovar became a symbol of Russian hospitality of the Russian people.  At first they were found only in homes of the upper class but eventually became a staple in every Russian home.
Today you can find the Samovar still in use in Russia, Persia and Turkey.  In the United States they remain in use in areas where large emigrant populations of Russian, Persians, or Turks have made their homes, usually in large metropolitan areas.
    THE SAMOVAR AND ITS ACCESSORIES
Basically, the samovar is a water-boiler with a tube running
    t h r o ugh i t  as a miniature stove. Most samovars are
made to burn charcoal, although some variations were made with oil
burners. Electric samovars have been manufactured in modern
times, and some of the old samovars have been electrified, mostly
by Russian owners who were more interested in practicality than
    sentimentality.
    The usual accessories include:
A TRAY on which the samovar sits. It should be large enough
for the samovar, drip bowl and other serving accessories closely
associated with the samovar. They are useful to prevent hot
charcoal ashes and liquids from falling on tables and linens.
They are frequently round or oval; however, a special keyhole
shape has been made specifically for samovars, which is round
exce?t for a small square projection on the back edge on which the
small base of the samovar sits.
    ORIGIN AND HISTORY OF SAMOVARS:
The samovar is not limited in distribution to the Russian
people, but has been manufactured and used by several other
nations of the Middle East, Asia and North Africa: Persia,
Turkey, Morocco, some Arab groups, and the southern Asian
countries now associated with the Soviet Union. Versions of
samovars, some very beautiful, have also been made in France
perhaps reflecting the influence of the many Russians who have
    settled there through the centuries.
Possibly, the first samovars were derived from portable
charcoal-burning cookers and heaters used by the Asiatic nomads.
An object much similar in form to the samovar is the Mongol
cooker, which is still used in China, Japan and other Asian
    countries.
    Brass:
Alloy of Copper, Zinc were produced as early the 5000 BC in China and were widely used in east and central Asia by the 2nd and 3rd century BC. These artifacts, however, may be best referred to as 'natural alloys', as there is no evidence that their producers consciously alloyed copper and zinc.
Greek and Roman documents suggest that the intentional production of alloys similar to modern brass, using copper and a zinc oxide rich ore known as calamine, began around the 1st century BC.
    brass
    ,
    alloy of
    copper
    and
    zinc
, of historical and enduring importance because of its hardness and workability. The earliest brass, called
    calamine brass
, dates to Neolithic times; it was probably made by reduction of mixtures of zinc ores and copper ores. In ancient documents, such as the Bible, the term brass is often used to denote bronze, the alloy of copper with tin.
