  • Condition: This original, restored, rolled, and linen backed movie poster displays excellent, solid colors with great detail of the images on a pristine background. There are really no flaws per se, but we will mention that the prior Fold lines - which have been restored to reduce their appearance - are only slightly visible and only under bright light and very close inspection. Thus, they are unobtrusive (not noticeable) to any extent to affect the beautiful image of this original movie poster. There are no pin holes, no tears and no tape or tape residue. There is no soiling or smudging and no loss of paper or color. The poster has a low gloss. Please review the photos carefully.

    This is the original (1sh) 1958 movie poster
    THE SPIDER.
    It was used to promote the film in theatres when it was released by
    American International
    in 1958   It is not a reprint nor a reproduction.  The movie stars
    Ed Kemmer, June Kenney, Eugene Persson
    , Gene Roth, Hal Torey, June Jocelyn, Mickey Finn, Sally Fraser, Troy Patterson, Skip Young, Howard Wright, Bill Giorgio, and Bob Garnet.
    It was directed by Bert I. Gordon.
    This restored movie poster is Rolled and linen backed.  The poster
    measures 27" x 41".
    The poster was rolled once it was linen backed.  With the linen backing, it now measures 28.50" x 43.50".  This poster was originally Folded.  Almost all original movie posters pre 1985 are Folded.  This is not considered a flaw or defect.
    This Restored movie poster is graded C8.5, or Very Fine to Near Mint.
    This grade is generally the highest grade a restored original movie poster can receive.  Original movie posters are graded, from the top down, as C10 (Mint), C9 (Near Mint), C8 (Very Fine), C7 (Very Good to Very Fine), C6 (Very Good), C5 (Good to Very Good), etc.  It is difficult to find any C10 (Mint) original movie posers pre 1985.
    Prior to restoration this poster was graded a C7 Fine/Very Fine.  Restoration removed a censorship stamp on the poster, and restored/repaired pinholes, creasing along the Fold lines, minor Fold
    separations
    at the cross Folds, and minor tears along the borders.
    The poster is now displays beautifully.  Something we strive to accomplish here at my Ebay store is to give the buyer the best of both worlds, (1) an original movie poster in (2) superior condition.  As you know, most of these original movie posters - especially pre 1985 - were displayed in Theatres and have gone through years of handing and storage.  Sometimes it is amazing to think that any of them survived.  But even as I as collecting for the past 30 years, I always only wanted ORIGINAL movie posters, but I hated the tears, and pinholes, and creasing, and Fold separations, and white lines at Fold lines, etc. that came with original movie posters.
    So for the originals that I sell, I often have them restored and linen backed in order to give you the best of both worlds.  I know some collectors feel that restoration destroys the "authenticity" of a poster, and they have a good point.  But I still have them restored. I don't think there are too many fans and collectors of original movie posters that want to display an original movie poster that is full of stains, tears, missing paper, Fold separations, etc.
    Obviously the restoration process adds to the cost of the poster,  but we feel it is worth it.
